Called “fearless” and “intense” by the Baltimore Sun, soprano Alyssa Bowlby was most recently seen as Frasquita in Carmen in January 2008 with Ardamore Chamber Opera. In December, she appeared as Marzelline in Empire Opera's production of Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio. In November, she appeared as Mme. Herz in Garden State Opera's production of Mozart's The Impresario. In August, she appeared as Queen of the Night in Project Opera of Manhattan's production of The Magic Flute. In June, she appeared both as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte with Brooklyn Repertory Opera and made her Weill Hall debut singing excerpts from Massenet’s Manon in the title role. In April, she was heard singing and being interviewed by Robert Smith on NPR’s All Things Considered.
She has also performed roles including Rita (Donizetti’s Rita), Geraldine (A Hand of Bridge), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), and Miss Pinkerton (The Old Maid and the Thief). In concert, she has appeared as the soprano soloist in Les Noces, Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Carmina Burana, Messiah, the Mozart Requiem, the Bach Magnificat, and Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang.
She recently finished a recording with Haverford composer/pianist Curt Cacioppo. She will join Opera in the Heights in 2009 as Nannetta in their production of Falstaff.
